Copyright Owners Rights and Responsibilities
Copyright law is differrent around the world, but it essentially says that someone with an idea can protect that idea for a period of time. That right can be transferred and become the obligation of another party, which is what might happen when an author pens a story that becomes a film.
Suddenly, the party with the rights has a responsibility to the original owner to protect those rights. If I were to write a story, I might not have any ability to protect it, but if I fob it off to Oracle9 Studios, I suddenly have someone to attack if my work goes out without my getting a return for it.
