SMPTE Numbers Get New View

The Society of Motion Pictures and Television Engineers has sent an email to membership giving details of a new normalization of their document numbering system. It mentions that the use of SI Units is the preferred set of units of measurement in all SMPTE Engineering Documents…which implies that the previous use of an “M” in document names (to designate the metric version) will no longer be needed. Further, the numbers will be in effect for new documents, but only changed in existing documents as they are revised. Thus, documents referenced in new documents might have the new or old style.
