Deadline.com — From Ray Richmond, who is contributing to Deadline Hollywood's TCA coverage: In the final executive session of the TCA confab in Pasadena on Saturday morning, FX president and GM John Landgraf acknowledged that he's disappointed in the ratings for the premiere last week of the network's latest drama series -- the boxing-themed Lights Out -- and continued to do post-mortems on the demise of Terriers but he remains undaunted going forward, stressing, "We've had six critically acclaimed shows and four ratings successes, one failure and one unknown. You can't bat .1000 in this business. That's just the way it is." Landgraf cautioned that it's far too early to dismiss Lights Out as a failure after just a single airing. "It was tremendously acclaimed. We're disappointed by the premiere ratings, but we'll be running it as planned. There's (rarely) been a scripted series on television about boxing, and this is a very good one...(But) no matter how good the show is, the question is, 'Are they somebody's first choice? Are they good enough to overcome massive competition in the marketplace?' I can't tell you what will happen over he next 12 weeks. Premieres are very important, but shows also find audiences over time. We'll just have to wait and see." "Maybe we should have made a show about a zombie or a sexy vampire trying to regain the heavyweight title of the world," he quipped, referring to the runaway ratings success of two other ... Deadline.com — Awards season came to the masses as Friday night’s 16th Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards was broadcast live on VH1, becoming the first movie kudos show of the year to hit the airwaves. It was a loose, sometimes hip, sometimes flip, telecast that if recent tradition is any indicator may provide a clearer picture  of what might happen February 27th. As one prominent entertainment reporter remarked, “This looks like it might be the Oscars.” Maybe. The CCMA’s have matched the Academy on Best Picture nine out of 15 times including the last four years in a row. Is it going to be five in a row? I’m told the Broadcast Critics' voting was actually very close between The Social Network and The King's Speech for the big prize, an indication this Oscar race is still fluid. Sony's The Social Network grabbed four awards including Best Director for an absent David Fincher, Best Adapted Screenplay for Aaron Sorkin (who quipped, “Seven years ago Mark Zuckerberg registered the Facebook domain name, and I’m sure this movie is just what he had in mind”), and Trent Reznor’s score plus the all-important Best Picture which Jane Fonda presented at show’s end. It was fairly predictable as most critics groups have done the same thing this year. Still, these results further solidify The Social Network’s increasing frontrunner status but it’s still early. Warner Bros' Inception actually led the list with 6 ... Read More »
Today3D News — We learned yesterday, once again, that there's been no meaningful progress on a Star Trek sequel, and that J.J. Abrams won't even promise he'll direct it until he sees the script that hasn't yet been written. And yet Vulture managed to dig some news out of the guy after all, asking Abrams if... Deadline.com — FRIDAY PM/SATURDAY AM: Sources tell me this was a tough Friday at the box office for two new major studio tentpoles opening on a long Martin Luther King 4-day holiday that overall is looking -25% down from last year's: 1. The Green Hornet 3D (Sony Pictures) NEW [3,584 Theaters] Friday $11.1M Estimated 3-Day Weekend $34M, Estimated 4-Day Holiday $38.5M It seemed a miracle that this much bad-buzzed big movie that's a modern adaptation of the old radio series about the legendary action duo -- Britt Reid (with the unorthodox casting of Seth Rogen) and his resourceful Kato (with Taiwanese pop singer Jay Chou) not to mention their coolly equipped The Black Beauty -- was tracking very well for weeks now. But then rival studios emailed me that The Green Hornet was surprisingly underperforming. Sony execs disagreed. They said things could have been worse at the box office Friday but the West Coast was "pushing it way up" with late shows. "Everybody agrees we will be up Saturday and should benefit all weekend long from a young audience," a Sony exec reassures. Whether The Green Hornet can get over $40M depends on this weekend's bump so let's not judge this movie's numbers prematurely. Friday's post midnight screenings were light -- $550K on 700 plays -- but that's because Sony didn't push them. Meanwhile, The Green Hornet earned a "B+" CinemaScore overall but an "A-" among audience members under age 25.  Given the higher 3D ticket prices and the superhero genre, these grosses are still on the lower side of Hollywood's expectations.  ("Once again, tracking overestimated this genre," a rival studio ... FirstShowing.net — Have you ever felt alone? What if you truly were? There is an absolutely breathtaking new trailer that you must stop and watch this weekend, as it came out of nowhere (well - Apple) and it's incredible. It's for an indie sci-fi film called Love, produced by Angels & Airwaves and directed by newcomer William Eubank that follows in the footsteps of Duncan Jones' Moon last year by focusing on one single astronaut, played by Gunner Wright, stuck in a space station. This one seems to have a lot more 2001-plus-The Fountain kind of epic visuals of the station and everything in between. But it looks so gorgeous and I really want to see it! Check out the trailer below and if you're interested in getting more info, just visit AngelsandAirwaves.com. FirstShowing.net — Holy frickin' hell this looks badass! Put your kids to bed before clicking on to see this fullsize (I'm kidding, it's not that bad). IGN has debuted another new official poster for Jason Eisener's Hobo With a Shotgun, the gritty grindhouse hobo exploitation film starring Rutger Hauer that's hitting Sundance in a few weeks. In contrast to the first yellow teaser poster from a few months back, this one is just so much more badass. It totally looks like exactly like a classic 70's exploitation movie posters, complete with masked hoodlums and shotgun shells a-flyin'. I want a copy of this poster - it's definitely on its way to becoming a classic already. This movie just looks so badass. As a reminder, Hobo With a Shotgun is based on a "fake" trailer that Jason Eisener and his Halifax, Nova Scotia-based crew made for a Grindhouse contest during the release of Robert ...
FirstShowing.net — After Warner Bros debuted the teaser trailer for the anticipated DC Comics' adaptation of Green Lantern, many fans were left with mixed feelings. The lengthy and tonally inconsistent trailer even left some wishing Ryan Reynolds was starring in Marvel's adaptation of Deadpool instead. While I'm reserving my judgment until the movie actually comes out, the folks at Deadpool and Friends (via GeekTyrant) have decided to spice up the Green Lantern trailer with some choppy animation and crude, but funny, voiceover as if DC's movie actually starred the Merc with a Mouth, complete with his sarcasm. Watch the foul-mouthed trailer below! We admit this is a bit silly (and certainly not for kids if you haven't figured it out by now), but it's Friday and we love a good laugh as much as the next web surfer. There's plenty of pop culture references that will keep even the casual Deadpool fan in ...

Deadline.com — Sarah Michelle Gellar is returning to broadcast series TV with a pilot at CBS. In its first drama pilot pickup this season, CBS has greenlighted Ringer, which is toplined by the former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star. The project hails from ABC Studios, CBS TV Studios and Brillstein Entertainment Partners. UPDATE: The pickup of Ringer was followed by another drama pilot order by CBS to an untitled supernatural medical drama from writer Susannah Grant. Ringer, written on spec by Supernatural writer-producers Eric Charmelo & Nicole Snyder, centers on a troubled young woman (Gellar) who, while on the run from the mob, hides out by inhabiting the life of her wealthy twin sister, until she learns that her twin’s life has a bounty on it as well. Brillstein's Peter Traugott is executive producing, with Gellar, Charmelo and Snyder co-executive producing. Geller, repped by ICM and Brillstein's Joanne Colonna, has been heavily pursued by the broadcast networks since the end of Buffy in 2003. Her only TV gig since then had been the HBO pilot The Wonderful Maladys. Charmelo and Snyder, who are story editors on Supernatural, are with UTA and the Shuman Co. The untitled Susannah Grant project, from CBS TV Studios and studio-based Timberman/Beverly Prods., centers on an ultra-competitive surgeon whose life is changed forever when his ex-wife dies and begins ... FirstShowing.net — Now that you've seen it, what did you think? Hitting theaters in earth-shattering 3D this weekend is Seth Rogen's new take on the classic hero The Green Hornet, directed by Michel Gondry and starring Seth Rogen as Britt Reid and Jay Chou as his sidekick Kato. When we first wrote about this years ago, not many believed Rogen could pull off a pulp hero like this, and yet here away, kickin' off the weekend with the Green Hornet and his Black Beauty. So how is it? Is it actually good or is it as bad as you thought? How are Rogen and Chou? If you've seen it leave a comment and let us know what you thought of The Green Hornet! To fuel the fire, I saw The Green Hornet a couple of weeks ago and sadly, I did not like The Green Hornet... much... at all. I just thought it ...

FirstShowing.net — Briefly: 20th Century Fox is re-arranging their 2011 release schedule, as is the custom once execs meet at the beginning of the year and discuss the status of their films. The biggest change is a delay for Rise of the Apes, directed by Rupert Wyatt, starring James Franco, Andy Serkis, Freida Pinto, which was pushed from June 24th this summer until November 23rd, Thanksgiving week. Considering we haven't seen anything from it yet and its marketing is highly dependent on Weta finishing photo-realistic rendering of CGI apes, a delay is understandable and acceptable, because I want it to turn out the best it possibly can. More below! Hollywood Reporter announces a few other major Fox date changes. Mr. Popper's Penguins, directed by Mark Waters and starring Jim Carrey, which we just featured photos for, has moved up from August 12th to June 17th to fill their summer slots. David Gordon Green's ...
