There has been no lack of innovation in the digital cinema world this year, with releases of new audio systems, new closed caption devices, new internal media blocks, and soon a movie release with new frame rates. But these are all quite movie centric. To pay for the equipment that cost 3 or 4 times what film equipment cost there has to be something more.
The presumption has been that this will be Alternative Content...what some call Other Digital Stuff. While there have been many tales of successes for a handful of live opera transmissions, every other attempt seems to still be in the experimental stage. There seems to be no momentum.
